Deputy Chief Justice Launches Two Publications on Divorce

The Deputy Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo on November 24, 2017 launched two books unmasking the mystery of marriage and divorce in Uganda. The two books titled Divorce Law, a Casebook for Uganda and The Politics of Putting Asunder respectively provide a critical analysis of the current state of divorce laws in Uganda. Over 35 participants including judicial officers took part in a one day training on raising awareness for the Judiciary on asset recovery at the Serena Hotel in Kampala. The training organized by the Judicial Training Institute in conjunction with SUGAR-TAF(strengthening Ugandas Anti-Corruption Response ) was facilitated by Andrew Mitchell QC, the Director Public Prosecution Mike Chibita, Deputy IGG George Bamugemeirere and Lady Justice Margaret Tibulya. Judiciary and Ministry of Land Discuss, “Access To Land Justice”

A number of Judicial officers from the ranks of Judges, Registrars and Magistrates attended a dialogue together with Officers from the Ministry of Land, Housing and Urban Development(LHUD) on access to Land Justice. JTI, FHRI and Freedom House Conduct Human Rights Training For Magistrates In Kasese

Judicial Training Institute (JTI) in partnership with Foundation for Human Rights Initiative (FHRI) and Freedom House (FH)) conducted a two day human rights training for judicial officers at Sandton Hotel, Kasese. This activity was conducted on September 21-22, 2017. The training was attended by 9 judicial officers (1 female and 8 male) from Kabarole, Kasese, Fortportal, Ntoroko, Bushenyi, Kyenjonjo and Bundibugyo. The training included a component on contested human rights issues, domestic relations, trends and impact of judicial independence, gender issues and human rights, gender issues, human rights and refugee law.

JTI Conducts Training of Trainers (TOT) on Gender Equality and Violence Against Women and Girls

At least 20 judicial officers are taking part in a three-day Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop in Gender Equality and Violence Against Women and Girls (EVAW) The training is being conducted by the Judicial Training Institute(JTI), with support from UN Women, under the theme "Capacity Strengthening for Delivery of Gender Responsive Justice Service in the Uganda Judiciary” which is a result of a two-year MoU between the Institute and UN Women. The Hon. the Chief Justice on September 21, 2017 inaugurated the Governing Council of the Judicial Training Institute at the High Court in Kampala. The 11-member Council, chaired by Supreme Court's Hon. Lady Justice Stella Arach Amoko, was appointed by the Hon. CJ on July 21, 2017 under Office Instruction No. 2 of 2017. The members include: Hon.
